Why I Wrote Fervent Faith

Remember the last time you needed a breakthrough? You were desperate. You pastor couldn’t help you. Your best friend couldn’t help you. Not even your momma could help you. The only possible way to get a breakthrough was for God to do the impossible.

But you had faith. You knew that with God all things are possible to him that believes. You knew that what’s impossible for man is possible with God. You knew that God was still on the throne and hears and answers prayers.

So what did you do? You confessed the Word. You rejoiced in the trial. You called those things that be not as though they were and you thanked Him. You meditated on the Word day and night waiting for the good success. You prayed and prayed – and then you prayed some more with all the fervency you could muster. You sought God with everything in you, trusting Him to heal your body, deliver you from trouble, meet your need, mend your relationship, save your child…

Then you got the breakthrough. You rejoiced in the Lord for day or two or three. And before you even realized it, somewhere on your mountaintop, your fire started to wane. And before too long, the devil was attacking you in that same place. Your symptoms started coming back, trouble visited again, you were faced with a dire need, your relationships were in a mess, your child was backsliding…And you were desperate for another breakthrough. You went from a spiritual high to an emotional low faster than a rollercoaster races down the rails that carry it.

But it didn’t have to be that way. If we maintained the fervency we displayed when we were seeking the God of the breakthrough, we could have continued to walk in the victory that belongs to us instead of walking in emotional defeat. Don’t beat yourself up. Even Elijah the miracle-working prophet, once fell into spiritual slump. Of course, he got back up again – and so must we.

I wrote this book because too many of us get desperate when we need a breakthrough, then lose our glow when the miracle manifests. Instead of letting the answers to prayer propel us to new depths in Him, we return to the surface; to life as usual. My brethren, it need not be this way. We can maintain spiritual fervency at all times – and that fervency will carry us through the hills and valleys without the spiritual highs and the emotional lows.

My prayer is that this book will ignite something in you – a stronger zeal for Christ – that you can then spread to others. Like a wildfire in the spirit, may this book be the catalyst for stirring your faith, your passion, your fervency to new heights in Him. Amen.
